Kia ora e te whānau,

As we reach the end of another term at Dyer Street School, it’s a moment to reflect on the hard work, growth, and achievements of our students, staff, and community. This term has been filled with learning, creativity, and collaboration, and we are proud of how everyone has embraced new challenges and opportunities. Atua News was certainly a highlight with our tamariki shining on stage. It was nice to be able to share this with our community.

This term, Dyer Street School’s Kaitiakitanga Challenge brought out the best in our students as they worked hard to embody the values of guardianship and responsibility. Room 11 and Room 4 shone particularly brightly, earning the top spot in the challenge. As a reward, they enjoyed an exciting game of paintball koosh with Mr. E, followed by a delicious fish and chip lunch to celebrate their success. It was a fantastic day filled with fun and laughter! As we look ahead to Term 4, we can’t wait to see which class will rise to the challenge and take the crown next!

Our whānau rōpu will be meeting again on Monday, 21st October at 6:30 pm in Room 10 to discuss the important topic of our pōwhiri process at Dyer Street School. This meeting provides a valuable opportunity for the group to come together and share their thoughts on what is meaningful to them in shaping and driving the school’s pōwhiri. By engaging in open discussions, we aim to ensure that our pōwhiri process not only respects tikanga but also reflects the values and aspirations of our whānau. We look forward to a productive session that will help guide our school’s cultural journey.

I hope you all have a wonderful holiday break and enjoy time with your family and friends.

Ngā mihi

Room 1

Room 1 worked very hard to learn their actions and lines for the production. After they had finished with their performances they wrote about their experiences. Enjoy reading their stories.

I felt happy because the stage was longer and lower. I had to wave my arms and sing ‘What a Wonderful World’. I was amazing being a tree. I had a nest with a bird and eggs in it on my head. My favourite bit was walking onto the stage because I got to walk all the way to the end. I was leader. I would be in another production only if I had to.

Hamish

I felt really happy because I had my whole entire family here and I was also kind of nervous and I was very happy I was going to talk. I was Papatūānuku and I loved to talk to the audience. I am great because I had to remember lots of lines. I looked beautiful. I want to do a production again because then I can talk. My family said I was great.

Ava

I feeled happy because Mum was there and liked it. I said “Put the glasses in the recycling.” I want to do it again because I liked the stage.

Amir

I felt good. I was a rainbow. I had to sing and put my dress on. My Mum said I did a really good job. I liked to sing and seeing the audience.

Te Wairia

I felt nervous because all the people were in the front of me and I was happy because I said it super loud and not shouting. My parents were super happy and proud. I want to do a production again because I want to make my parents proud. I liked being on stage.

Tāwhiri

My mum and my dad and my brother came and watched too. I had to sing and perform. I want to do a production again because I liked my Mum and Dad.

Ruhan

I was so happy because I was so proud of myself. I said “I can turn the tap off to save water.” I said it loud. My Mum said she was so proud. She loved me, so happy. I really love to be on stage.

Halima

I felt excited because there was so much people. I had to do my lines and sing. My family felt proud of me. I liked the lights. I don’t want to do a production again as there is too much people.

Zebadiah

I said “Refuse, reduce, reuse and recycle.” It was good. It was fun. I did singing, ‘Rangi and Papa’ and ‘It’s a Wonderful World.’ The Atua was Papatūānuku.

Oscar

I felt happy because I loved to go on the stage. I love to sing and I love Papatūānuku. I was the sky. I was waving.

Billy

I felt happy because I did my lines. I did a good job. I had to wave and sing. My family were happy. I want to do a production again. I want to sing the song on stage.

Tamahae

It was a bit scary but I started to feel happy because my love heart helped me. I saw my family and they liked me doing it and they clapped. I had to sing and wave my hands. I was amazing and my family said “Hooray, hooray, hooray!” I want to go on the stage again. It was so fun.

Lily

I felt scared, excited and brave and I was happy and proud of myself. I was proud because I wanted to say my words slow and loud. My family think I did great. I want to be on stage again. I want to be Papatūānuku.

Zoe

In liked going on stage. I liked the songs. I was a flower. I want to go on stage again. It was fun.

Arushi

I liked being on the stage. I loved the people watching. I said, “I don’t need to buy a new toy, I’ve already got one.” I want to do a production again.

Tyson

I liked singing the songs. I had to sing a rainbow. I was a rose. I want to go on the stage again. I like it.

Simar

The production was good. I liked to go to the production because I like the lights, they were flashing around. It was easy saying my lines. I remembered them. My Mum and my sister and everyone that was there saw me. They think I did good. I want to do a production again because it is so good.
