Literacy

When children start at Dyer Street School they are taught using a structured approach to literacy (sometimes called Science of Reading aligned or Structured Literacy). This means we use a programme that is based on up to date evidence that teaches children to read in a structured way that aligns with what we know about how children’s brain’s learn to read and write.

Because of the structured approach children experiencing difficulties with reading or writing can be identified early and then become part of extra small group reading lessons. If children require extra support they then work one on one with our literacy support teacher or are referred to external supports.
